Guidance prices approved by Europe to support sustainability

The European Commission has just given the green light for the implementation of guidance prices for organic and HVE wines in the Pays-d’Oc PGI for a period of two years. This is an exceptional derogation from competition law, supported by the Vignerons coopĂ©rateurs de France et d’Occitanie (French and Occitan winegrowers’ cooperative) with the backing of the interprofessional organisation, and applicable from the 2025 harvest onwards.

đŸ·ïž These prices will be set by specialised committees within the interprofessional organisation, taking into account production costs and market conditions. The objective is clear: to guarantee fair remuneration for producers while remaining competitive, with prices between 0 and 20% above cost price.

Six grape varieties are covered by this scheme – Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, Cinsault and Grenache – representing more than three million hectolitres. The decision has been welcomed by industry players, who see it as a tool to strengthen sustainability and provide ‘clear benchmarks for the market’ in a context marked by declining consumption, climate pressure and economic uncertainty.
