Fresh insights into American wine & spirits consumption

Sowine has released its first barometer dedicated to the U.S. market. Unlike France, where wine dominates, beer remains America’s top alcoholic beverage (48%), followed by cocktails (37%). Wine ranks 4th (35%), yet is enjoyed by 71% of consumers, with 51% drinking it at least once a month.

A striking trend: younger generations (21–35) drink more wine (76%) than older ones, the opposite of France. French wines enjoy a strong image of quality, sophistication, and prestige, with Bordeaux, Champagne, and Provence leading the way.

French spirits are also highly valued. Cognac, Armagnac, and Calvados stand out for their authenticity and sophistication, strengthening the premium appeal of French savoir-faire.

👉 The 2025 barometer confirms that France remains a global benchmark for taste and quality in the eyes of American consumers.
