Wildfire in Aude: vineyards severely impacted
The summer of 2025 will remain etched in the minds of Aude winegrowers. The massive wildfire that devastated more than 17,000 hectares destroyed nearly 900 hectares of vineyards, hitting the Corbières wine region and local cooperatives hard.
Beyond the charred landscapes, an entire economy is reeling: entire plots reduced to ashes, grapes tainted with smoke making AOP production impossible, and a sense of helplessness in the face of risks not covered by current insurance policies.
“We are not insured for this type of risk. Yet we pay very high contributions,” laments Anael Payrou, president of a cooperative winery in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse. His call for help reached the Prime Minister, who visited the site to assess the damage and discuss a recovery plan.
A human and economic tragedy that highlights the urgency of adapting the wine industry to climate challenges. 🙏
